Halo™ SPHandle (Swim Paddle and Handle Grip) with latex tubing
This tubing trainer design is specifically for swim stroke simulation– although it also can be used for many general exercises such as rotator cuff strength. The grips and the tubing length on the Halo™ SPHandle both uniquely address swim specific issues. The grip allows for a secure open-hand “paddle” like posture rather than a traditional fist grip and the ten foot tubing length allows a more gradual progressive-resistance pattern that mimics the swim-stroke path (unlike the short aerobic style tubing models. The 3'-5’ aerobic version tubes are generally too light at the beginning of the pull and too heavy at the end).Progressive-resistance dryland training promotes acceleration through the stroke path when the athlete transfers the learned movement back to the water. This has a favorable effect because we always want our hand to be moving faster than the water it is pushing against.
Halo™ SPHandles are available in four color-coded resistance tubing levels:
yellow = light, red = medium, blue = heavy and black = x-heavy.A general rule of thumb for choosing the correct tubing is to correspond body weight to tube resistance:
- Less than 110 lbs – yellow
- 110-150 lbs - red
- 150-190 lbs - blue
- 190+ lbs - black.
When in doubt of which resistance level - we advise to use a lighter resistance and do more and faster reps. The best thing about this tubing is the quick and convenient swim workout it can provide when you don’t have time to get to water.
